The gauntlet has been thrown down.

Congratulations, man, it's finally here and damn if it aint great. Looks like your getting a great responce too. NG hasn't seen this much frame work in one submission in quite a time, if ever.

The fbf is, of coarse, excellent. The vocal work, counter to synj's comments, I like. And it's thoroughly entertaining - all TEN MINUTES.

The audio has issues but as far as creative choice of fx and bg music per scene - it's still pretty damn fine work.

All in all - An amazing amount of effort to produce possibly THE best Animation I've ever seen at NewGrounds.

The ridiculous thing is... I know it's only going to get better!!! ;)

Two Things...

Excellent animation. It must've taken quite some time fbf'ing that fight scene. I'm also glad to see someone finally taking the time to map out some inconsequential movements for basic shots - just like the big boys do. Lot's of style, lots of nice fbf, and I like the backgrounds.(We'll not mention the audio - I'm sure the author is well aware.)

Two things I wanted to mention specifically - First, something about this reminds me of Takahashi Rumiko's work... Leaning toward Inuyasha. Could the author be a fan?

Second, I'm also seeing "Batman - the Animated Series", style facials and shading... The newer rendering style that got carried over into Superman and now the Justice League. Again, am I making this stuff up or do I see another influence?

Well... I like it. Keep it up. My only suggestion would be to try doing a couple high detail fbf moments instead of lumping all your fbf into one lower-res splurge of tremendous effort as you did with the fight scene here.

However, in this first episode it works well as quite the eye catcher.

rambling.....

Excellent.

Your previous submissions have all gotten at least one good laugh out of me but this one held me in a continuous state of searching for oxygen for at least a good 45 seconds.

I'd also like to put in my vote that you focus more on straight forward episode style installments like this one. I've liked everything you've done with the series so far but this one had the most flow.

Again... excellent.

Where was Jesus? ;)

Nice to see someone getting the job done with tweens. Very stylistic author especially on the backgrounds. Nice use of gradients.

I think the only thing this could have used was a higher frame rate. Playback wasn't too fluid - everything clipped along.

Even so, motion was very well directed and though I think we all know where this style is coming from, you handle it fine. Good work.

Excellent.

This is some great fbf and an excellent way of spinning the aging DBZ genre into something new and worthwhile.

I especially liked the way you did the fully framed exploding landscape shots. Very stylistic.

There is room for improvement in the character shots. You either need to do more inbetweening(time consuming, I know) or simply work on getting the few frames you have more similar to each other. This suggestion is specifically for the choppier moments.

Actually makes me think you might have done this with a mouse instead of a tab. If that's true... well... damn, man... damn! ;)

Katoblade responds:

I drew everything with a mouse lol

thanx for the review

Cat vs. Cat

Very nice fbf - however, I must say...

My animator will kick your animators ass and day of the week, kitty.

Muahahaha

Damn, that's a lot of Eights.

This certainly wasn't a bad piece but there are three primary things that need improvement. The first being the dependancy on tweens. 98.7% of the animation here was tween based -- though I'm a proponent of using tweens as often as possible to lower file size, this flash work could definately use some more framing. (Props, though, for the backflip... nice.)

Second on my list would be the storyboard speed. This is something that I see constantly at NG. Often, an author or team puts a ridiculous amount of time into an animation and somehow wants to convey their effort in the animation. What they usually end up with is a movie that drags it's feet. This particular piece could use faster cuts, pans, and transitions.

Thirdly is the audio, which is barely worth mentioning. You can only work with what you have and I don't hold any lack of audio quality against this piece in my vote. But I do have to quickly mention how much an animation can improve with the simple addition of better quality voice overs and sound effects.

All said - there's room for improvement - but also quite a lot of skill being displayed. Keep it up.

Quick Post

Great artwork - simple animation.

I see a lot of simple tweening and some sloppy fbf. Don't get me wrong - it's excellent artwork and the charecter design is kewl but the actual animation itself can be improved.

I'd also suggest working on the timing. This could've been even more impressive had the cut's been quicker. Imagine all those beautiful backgrounds and charecters squeezed into a 2 minute flash instead of 4-5.

Bear in mind, I make these suggestions not to insult but to encourage the potential I see here. A little honing; a little more direction - that's all the author needs.

ok... I guess it was a not-so quick post.

My fish is not dead. My fish is alive. This is NOT in my head!
